RAI Participated in the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) LIVESTRONG™ Summit

RAI Founder and President, Ryan O'Donoghue, participated as a delegate in the inaugural LIVESTRONG™ Summit. The LAF lead a survivorship movement that will broaden the awareness and impact the unmet physical, emotional and practical needs of people living with cancer.

The inaugural LIVESTRONG™ Summit took place October 27-29, 2006, in Austin, Texas. Throughout the weekend, LIVESTRONG™ Summit delegates were inspired and led by esteemed conference speakers such as:

  • Cancer survivor and champion cyclist Lance Armstrong
  • Senator John Kerry
  • LaSalle D. Leffall, Jr., M.D., President's Cancer Panel Chair
  • Author Jim Collins
  • Michael Milken, FasterCures Chairman
  • Antonia C. Novello, Former U.S. Surgeon General

Delegates left Austin empowered, inspired and prepared to energize their state's survivorship population and help change the face of cancer survivorship. RAI is proud to be involved with such a powerful organization.

LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon

October 22, 2006

Special thanks to everyone who supported Rise Above It Vice President, Shawn Fox, in the 2006 LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon. Unfortunately Shawn was unable to finish the race. During the extensive marathon training, Shawn developed two stress fractures in his foot. Against doctors orders, Shawn decided to run in the race and wound up breaking a bone his foot early on during the race. A combination of his stubbornness and conviction to make RAI supporters proud led to four weeks of wearing a boot – those of you who know Shawn know that he did it will a sense of humor and a smile on his face.

Shawn thoroughly enjoys running and has already signed up for the San Diego Marathon. RAI will just carry over everyone’s generosity to this event and will keep you updated on Shawn’s training progress and hopefully more positive race results.

Thanks again and please wish Shawn good health in his next training schedule.

The Third Day Movie Screening

October 18, 2006

The Third Day is a documentary about The Ohio State University Wrestling Team overcoming adversity to make it through their triumphant 2004 season – a season where 5 wrestlers were named All-American. The filmmaker, Will Knight, is close friend to Rise Above It (RAI) founder Colin O’Donoghue and designated RAI as a charitable recipient for the movie event premier.

This most recent event touched a very wide audience, from high school athletes to supporting friends and family. Everyone in the audience was supporting life’s challenges, whether to rise up as an athlete or to rise above life’s ongoing challenges. In the true spirit of RAI, the event provided inspiration to enjoy life while instilling the philosophy that a positive attitude will always overcome. Over 100 people were in attendance and a significant portion of the total proceeds was donated the RAI Benefit.

Special Thanks to Will and the Knight family for their dedication to the cause.

Will Knight is one of RAI’s strongest supporters! This event was his first demonstration of many successful future productions.
